Omron brings simplicity and versatility to industrial robots

Automation expert Omron has entered the industrial robot market with an extensive range of SCARA robots that combine simple programming, quick set up and exceptional versatility with compact construction, high reliability and competitive pricing.

Omron has also introduced a robot controller compatible with all models in the range and can optionally provide an integrated vision system providing conveyor tracking functionality that simplifies machine design. The robot controller can be easily integrated with other Omron products via Fieldbus systems such as, Ethernet or serial communication using standard library and function blocks.

Ideally suited for use in industrial applications of all types including, for example, pick-and-place machines, automated assembly lines and inspection systems, Omron’s new robots are available with payload capacities from 1 to 50 kg, and reach from 120 mm to 1,200 mm. This wide range of options allows users to choose a model that matches their specific needs accurately and economically.

The versatility of Omron’s new family of robots is further increased by the availability of special versions, including clean room, dust- and drip-proof, inverted and ceiling-suspended models. These are particularly useful for machines that will be used in critical environments, such as those frequently encountered in the food and pharmaceutical industries.

The RCX240 controller that complements the new robots is one of the smallest of its type, programming is easily carried out via the powerful and intuitive VIP+ software or via programming box.  Option cards are available to allow connection to DeviceNet, Profibus and Ethernet networks.

All products in the new Omron SCARA robot range have been designed from the outset to combine precision with speed. Depending on the model, they can offer positional repeatability down to ±0.005 mm. The robots are also optimised for reliability and low maintenance using mostly direct coupling without belts, and have no electronic parts in their moving elements.

All types are suitable for 24/7 operation in the most demanding of production environments.
