Challenge
Bow and stern thrusters increase a vessel’s manoeuvrability, making docking easier and reducing physical damage caused by ping-pong docking. However, port and harbour authorities are becoming increasingly concerned with the environmental impact. Thrusters powered by electric motors are helping in this respect. Not only do they eliminate the environmental impact by reducing noise, emissions and vibration. They also reduce fuel consumption.

Solution
Electric motors, as used to drive winches, pumps, cranes and thrusters, all require control of the motor speed. A frequency inverter combines a dependable drive with excellent starting torque and accurate speed control. Omron offers a wide selection of inverters in ratings from 1 to 1200 kW. Inverters rated up to 300 kW can be supplied from stock to provide optimum motor control with smooth and silent operation.
